The Songbird and the Soldier Celebrates its 1st Birthday...

25/7/2014

The Songbird and the Soldier by the lovely Wendy Lou Jones and published by Harper Impulse is one year old today....

Here's a little celebratory post to tell you all about this lovely book and what Wendy's first year of publication with Harper Impulse has been like. Take it away Wendy...

Well here it is, exactly a year to the day since my first book was released back into the wild and what a year it’s been. It was my first year
with someone else thinking of me as an author and far more work than I thought, but a lot more fun too. Between the writing and the promo and creating a blog, building a website, getting an author Facebook page and getting to grips with
Twitter, it has felt a little mad at times. And that’s on top of looking after my family.

I have By My Side, my second book, out since then too and a third now written, but Songbird will always be special to me. It was the one that helped me fly. And now it is coming out in paperback too, hopefully it can soar to new heights. (A girl can dream.)

I hope this year will be a good year for the troupes returning home from Afghanistan and for Songbird, who lived a virtual life with them, even if only through fiction.

And maybe if you feel the need for some tortured heroes and brave men in dusty uniform, you might pick up a copy too and become a friend.

Have a good summer all.

Blurb: Sometimes it’s when you least expect it, that something wonderful happens, but for Andy
Garrington the timing couldn’t have been worse. Being sent halfway round the world to Afghanistan, Andy is prepared for a fight, but what he doesn’t expect is the most important battle of his life to carry on at home.

For Samantha Litton, running into her childhood crush at the pub one evening seems like good fortune. But when he is called away to war and she is left behind, things don’t seem quite so clear and Sam has to determine who is telling her the truth and who is playing her for a fool, when all seems fair in love and war.

Bio: My name is Wendy Lou Jones. I was born and raised in West Sussex, England and moved to Birmingham to study Medicine at University, where I was lucky enough to meet my husband. We now live in a little village in Herefordshire with our two grubby boys. I discovered a
love of writing not long after my youngest son started school. And if you were to ask me what it was that made me make the switch, I’d tell you quite simply, that it started with a dream.

An "I Love Stationery" Post with...Elsa Winckler

22/7/2014

Picture
I'm joined today by the lovely Elsa Winckler whose new book "Touched To The Heart" from Escape Publishing released 1st July (more about that in a mo...).  Let's find out what stationery touches her heart!
Picture
I love to shop. Nowadays though, shopping for clothes not so much – no-one seems to think women over 60 also need to dress. So I can happily indulge in my other love – stationery. What’s not to love? A beautiful shop called Typo has opened its doors near Cape Town and I’m
like a kid in a candy story when I’m in there. I simply don’t know where to start. Our daughter and daughter-in-law share my fetish and I know whatever I buy, they’ll love.

My favourite stationery? I adore those little post-it stickers and only take them down around my work space when I feel a bit threatened by all the yellow reminders.

I love any and all kinds of journals – the empty pages are filled with so many possibilities – a story, a note, a list of books I still want to read, a diary of a trip, a recipe, a pattern, the beginnings of a love story …

And pencils! There is just something about them – the smell always transports me back to simpler times before the world was ruled by technology. And somehow, the idea that whatever you write down with a pencil is temporary, can be changed, erased – fascinates me.

Don’t get me wrong – I love technology. I’m completely in love with my small, shiny, white laptop on which I write all the weird and wonderful conversations that always seem to be taking place in my head among people I have yet to meet.

One of these stories is coming out on 1 July – Touched to the heart.
It is the first in what I hope to be a series on the Cavallo brothers – tycoons and owners of boutique hotels in South Africa, London and the
Seychelles. The first story is about Don who met Caitlin when he injured his back during a cycling race. She is a physiotherapist and when she touches his injured back, she also manages to touch his heart.

I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know them.

Book blurb:  Discover beautiful South Africa in this sweet, heart-warming Cinderella story about a blogger, a billionaire, and one chance
meeting.

When  it comes to men, if physiotherapist Caitlin Sutherland didn't have bad luck, she would have no luck at all. To help cope, Caitlin starts blogging in her spare time, about the types of men she meets and the bad dates she goes
on.
While on duty during the annual Wines to Whales bicycle race, a gorgeous, sweaty cyclist walks in and sets her hormones dancing. But he
is Don Cavallo; one of the four Cavallo brothers — hotel tycoons, famous as much for their business skills as for the number of beauties regularly seen on their arms.
Don Cavallo has his own issues with the other sex. He has yet to find one who is interested in him and not in his money or hotels. But when this sexy physio puts her hands on his back she not only touches his body, but also his heart.

They've both been burned before, but neither of
them can stop themselves from playing with fire.

Bio: I have been reading love stories for as long as I can remember and when I ‘met’ the classic authors like Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Henry James The Brontë sisters, etc. during my
studies, I was hooked for life.
I married my college boyfriend and soul mate and after 39 years, 3 beautiful children and 3 grandchildren, he still makes me weak in the knees. We are fortunate to live in the picturesque
little seaside village of Betty's Bay, South Africa with the ocean a block away and a beautiful mountain right behind us. And although life so far has not always been an easy ride, it has always been an exiting and interesting one!
I like the heroines in my stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong.  And the
heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous!  My stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who
they are when we meet them in the story.
